Exactly the right thing to do. It's kind of the point for me - after several careers of having to write particular stuff in a particular way (which I enjoyed) it's liberating to be able to write what I want about whatever I want to write about, responding to prompts when they spark something in me, and not if they don't.

Oh and my entire world knowledge of the Appellation Trail is based on Bill Bryson's A Walk In the Woods. Even through his lens it sounded awesome.
