Good advice. I once knew an author who wrote Westerns and was very successful over many years. He read a couple before writing his first, then no more. When asked (as he often was) What were his favourite Westerns, his reply was 'I write Westerns, I don't read them.' There's always an exception. Your piece reminded me of him. But I agree with what you say.
