I should pretend that it was totally planned, but it wasn't. I was going for the helicopter and never noticed the pigeon until I saw the photo.

The moon was visible (a transparent stealth bomber moon) at about the point of that anomaly in the sky, so I think it's that with a bit of camera shake added in maybe.
