I'm sorry you get unfairly battered, and I hope that letting off steam has made you feel better. I also hope that you're talking about a tiny percentage of the writers you encounter. I'm an editor (not on Medium) and I recognise the writer who fights back ("Yes, but what I meant was..." "My friends all thought it was fine...") but who won't be on hand to explain to every reader, even supposing readers would be waiting around to be explained to. But the vast majority receive my criticisms (which I admit can tend towards the acidic at times) with grace and gratitude and make me love the work of editing all the more. I hope that's true for you too.
