In any other job McCarthy would have been sacked on (lack of) capability grounds a long time ago. The whole thing operates at the level of toxic debating society run by arrogant teenagers who don't bother with reading/thinking on the grounds that they already know they're right. Difference being that teenage debating societies tend to be way better at side-lining the McCarthys of this world.
