In many cases, not all, I think it's an undefined sense of grievance that has been building for years. A group of people who struggle for respect - often victims of bizarre anti-science and anti-critical-thinking educational systems. They are a group ripe for manipulation. Having a conspiracy to share gives them a purpose, an importance, they can feel that they belong in their own dangerous bubble.

Unscrupulous politicians, media magnates etc have been encouraging this for years - an uneducated population is easier to control, to manipulate.

The irony is that at this stage, it would be unethical to approve any new study that required a large group to be deliberately unvaccinated - vaccines (tested on millions) have been shown to work - but this group insist on being the lab rats to provide all the data for how much worse covid is for the unvaccinated.
