The ecologically sound positive message trail.

A family visit today brought together the young cousins ranging in age from 5 to 10. The two oldest (sisters) told the tale of how they and their friends had set out with coloured chalks up and down their street, creating a “positive message trail” on the walls and pavements outside people’s homes comprising pictures and happy messages. They explained that it was ecologically sound as the chalk would wash off in the rain.

Our street is not conducive to message trails, positive or otherwise. Our neighbours have hedges rather than walls, and we don’t have pavements at all. A positive message trail would have looked good on the lane itself. However, sending out a gang of small children to decorate the tarmac on a public highway raises safety concerns.

We have a driveway that will take colour, so unearthed some chalks, and they set to work producing a series of colourful pictures. Unfortunately, a fight broke out over the wording of the positive message that was to accompany the artwork. This morphed into a breakneck game of chase around the garden that became an impromptu picnic in the tree house, and the message was never completed.
