That part really chimed with me. The most satisfying teaching I did was towards the end of my academic career when I taught so-called fragile learners how to learn. People who had had their confidence knocked so badly they thought they were 'thick' - they weren't, they were bright, and it was hugely fulfilling to see them blossom and realise how wonderful learning can be, and what they could get out of it. Learning is brilliant. I love it. I never intend to stop learning.
Oh and my father too was a refugee - more than once. He always valued learning above anything else.
