That’s very true. Although never a dedicated practitioner, there are some yoga and mindfulness techniques that I’ve relied on for years. One thing that never worked for me was the ‘pen by the bed’. I had a friend who kept reams of paper and boxes of pens by her bed and wrote 1000s of words in the small hours — coherent words at that — but somehow it never worked for me, so now I trust to my subconscious to keep hold of any key ideas that come to me in the night.
