When people are entrenched, as you note, you cannot change their minds. If they are to change, they have to change their own minds. Raising questions can help if done in a non-hostile way and followed by immediate retreat from the field to give them room to face the anomaly without the need to fight blindly eg how does X work? X being a non-sequitur arising from the particular conspiracy they are peddling.
